Freddie Prinze Jr. was born on March 8, 1976 in Los Angeles, California.

His father Freddie Prinze (born Frederick Karl Pruetzel) was a standup comedian and television actor in the 70's. He played Chico Rodriguez in, "Chico and the Man." Freddie Prinze was of Puerto Rican and Hungarian descent. He would describe himself as being a Hungarican. He passed away on January 29, 1977 at the age of 22 under tragic circumstances. Soon after his father's passing he and his mother moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

His mother is Katherine Elaine Cochran a Real Estate Agent. She is of Italian American descent.
