AMERICAN IDOL 2011 - Hollywood "Hell" Week Performance Begins, Round 2 - Los Angeles Group Auditions (Includes Video)
65
There they were, in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. After all of the cuts the judges made on day 1 and 2, only 168 contestants remained. Soon after the auditions were over the contestants began choosing their groups, their song and even began learning choreography. They were all sounding tight and on point feeling confident because they were ahead of the game. Nothing to fear, they were in their element but you know there always has to be a monkey rench thrown into the mix when the contestants are feeling to comfortable.
An announcement was made to the audience. The groups needed to be a mixture of day 1 and day 2 people. Boy were they screwed. You saw them going banana's looking for someone to add from one of the days they were missing in the group. All that time that was spent harmonizing and vibing was for naught, nada, nothing.
Throughout this show we got to witness a bunch of divas and male's that let their claws come out and alot of cut throat 'tude action going on too, just as I had mentioned in my previous hub,
http://hubpages.com/hub/AMERICAN-IDOL-2011-Hollywood-Hell-Week-Begins-Round-1.
REBEL STAR
Tiffany Rios went around "scoping out" groups to join. To her amazement she just kept getting rejected. She said, "I am the only professional choregrapher in this place and no one wants to have me!" Could it have been because of the comment she made before that left a bad taste in the other competitors mouths? Then walking down the aisle she said, "Maybe it's a huge protest against Tiffany from New Jersey."
She then asked Scotty McCreery to join her, he just thought that she was crazy. She got Jessica Yantz to leave the group, The Sugar Mama's which consisted of four girls and a guy, Brett Loewenstern. No one showed interest in joining Tiffany and Jessica's group. The producers gave them a chance to perform a duet.
As the girls made their way to the stage Jennifer says, "Oh my God I am so scared of this group right now" as Randy chimes in, "Yeah me too."
Tiffany and Jessica chose to sing, "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce.
This was just not the song for these two girls. They both have beautiful voices but it went terribly wrong. They were stopped mid-song by Randy. They did not bring it at all. I don't know what the hell happened but I was shocked. It would have been nice to have seen Tiffany make it through if only they had picked something else to sing that showed their range. Many of you may not agree but she does have talent. Like i said before, she is not the only one that speaks her mind.
Then there's Jordan Dorsey, he was originally with the group, 4-40 and left them after hours of practice to join Robbie Rosen in the group, 4 PLUS 1. He felt that this group was a better fit and he was not leaving it to chance to make it through to the next round. He took it upon himself to search for the group he felt was right no matter what and it worked.
The group performed, "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5. They whole group made it through.
The group 4-40 also made it through.
THREE'S COMPANY
This group consisted of my main man Rob Bolin, his ex-Chelsee Oaks and Jacqueline Dunford. Why he chose to be in this group, I don't know so don't ask me. I couldn't understand it myself. The girls chose a song he was not comfortable with and he still stood their anyway. Why didn't you just walk away and find another group to join Rob? Damn! Oh goodness, I'm sorry, I just get caught up in the moment sometimes.
It bothered me to see that the girls didn't even think of picking a song and basic choreography that would have best suited the three of them, something that they all would have been comfortable with. I just found this to be very selfish. Due to the song choice, the girls made it through and Rob was sent packing. That's okay Rob, you have already built a fan base.
The following day were the solo performances and Jacqueline bowed out of the competition because she got really sick. Chelsee was nervous because she was all alone. She performed her solo and did not make it through.
THE GUAPS
I don't know what that stands for so... when I find out I'll let you guys know. The group consisted of,
- Clint Gamboa
- Jacee Badeaux
- Monique De Los Santos
- Francis Coontz
- last to join Scotty McCreery
Scotty came by to see if he could join them after getting the $&*# scared out of him by Tiffany and being rejected by Jordan and the 4-40 group. They really weren't all that interested in letting Scotty into the group until Jacee told them that having five people just might work.
After hours of practicing Clint decided that Jacee, one of the groups original members wasn't a good fit for the group, it was nothing personal. The other's did not say yes or no, they just went along with the decision as Jacee walked away trying to keep his head up holding back the tears. You can see he was really hurt by this but he continued to tell the girls that it was okay. Once he reached his parents he let out his emotions and diappointment. His parents were so supportive and told him that it was going to be alright.
The Guaps chose to sing, "Get Ready" by The Temptations.
They actually did a great job as a foursome. They all made it through.
THE SUGAR MAMA'S
- Brett Loewenstern
- Denise Jackson
- Stevie Cain
- Natalie Hanson
- last to join Jacee Badeaux
The group was still looking for an extra person to replace Jessica Yantz. Looking around to see what group would want him after getting kicked out of The Guaps, Jacee Badeaux bumped into Brett and was invited to join his group. Brett brought him over to the rest of the group excited as Denise and he kept thanking him and God that their prayers were answered. So, so sweet...
They chose to sing, "Mercy" by Duffy.
Jacee fumbled through the lines as he did not have enough time to learn the song. Bad enough he had never heard it before.
After the performance the judges deliberated and decided that they all made it through. Little man was granted a second chance! Yes...
SPANGLISH
This group consisted of,
- Jovanny Barretto
- Karen Rodriguez
- Kevin Campos
- George Gabriel
They wound up performing late because Kevin slept in. Someone from the show was sent to wake him up and he was caught on camera. That was some funny $&*# . While Kevin got ready Steven Tyler took the opportunity to entertain the audience by playing drums.
Spanglish chose to sing, "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars.
Jovany and Karen made it through to the solo round.
The Night Owls, Lara Johnston was sent home. Only Julie Zorrilla and Casey Abrams made it through to the solo round.
The group that had Caleb Hawley, Devyn Rush, Chris Medina all made it throught to the solo rounds except for Devyn which didn't make sense to me either. Her voice was supposedly pitchy! Really? I didn't hear that at all. Did you?
Then Caleb was later eliminated. Are you serious? UGH! I love his hair.
The group that had Matthew Nuss in it all made it through to solo rounds. Then he was eliminated too, oh come on now!
I could not believe this because both he and Caleb have amazing voices but whatever, we just don't know what the judges truly want this year. I will continue to be a fan no matter what.
Then there are Matt Dillard and Paris Tassin who were also sent home after group rounds. I'm sure going to miss seeing them both on the show. I do look forward to what the future awaits for them after idol.
We got a glimpse of the group that had Mark Gutierrez, Aaron Gutierrez and Tim Halperin in it while they practiced their hearts out in the bathroom but we didn't get to see the performance. Not nice American Idol, not nice at all. That was a sucky move!
Mark and Tim made it through to the next round and Aaron had to go home gracefully still cheering on his older brother. Then to all of our surprise, Mark was eliminated as well before making it to the Top 40.
Is Tim still in?
SOLO ROUND BEGINS
Stefano Langone chose to sing, "Sir Duke - You Can Feel It All Over" by Stevie Wonder.
Jovany Barretto sang, "You Sang To Me" the Spanglish version of his idol and Jennifer's husband, Marc Anthony.
Jacee Badeaux chose to sing, "Time Of My Life" by American Idol's very own Season 7 winner, David Cook.
At the beginning of the show the camera focuses on Jacob E. Lusk as he says, "Round one down, on to the groups where we could take over the world!" Ya think!
Did you hear this young man sing? He brought the house down. I had chills going up and down my spine and tears in my eyes. WOO WOO! Unfreakin-believable, Wow! Bravo!
You can watch for yourself if you think I'm exaggerating.
It was Casey Abrams turn to do his solo thing. He came out to center stage with his bass as the judges awaited his performance.
Casey chose to sing, "Georgia On My Mind" by Ray Charles.
As he played the bass he began to sing in a nice bluesy tone. Soon the band joined in and brought it all together. This was all beautifully done.
Love, Love, Love me some Casey singing and a glass of wine with my husband!
Julie Zorrilla sang, "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles.
Caleb Hawley sang, "Sir Duke - You Can Feel It All Over" by Stevie Wonder.
Colton Davis sang, "What About Now" by Westlife.
Brett Loewenstern sang, "The Story" by Brandi Carlisle.
Robbie Rosen sang, "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles.
All made it through.
Clint Gamboa sang, "Georgia On My Mind" by Ray Charles.
He made it through.
GREAT DEALS!

It may have some descrepancies, he wasn't 100% sure either so... I guess we will all be sure if this list is any good come next week Wednesday. I still like the names on it though...
I hope you enjoyed the read. Stay tuned for Round 3.

Bring the one of the Gutierrez brothers back!!! ive heard there videos on youtube, & they are amazing!!! I'm sure that's why they didn't show there group performance or marks solo performance to justify why they weren't sent home! It's obvious the producers keep people with drama our a story, but isn't this show supposed to be about finding great vocal talent, not about stories,.or girls having a panic attack! I no longer believe in american idol!
